Kennedy Highway – Kuranda Range Road
Near Avondale Creek
Curve widening works
The Department of Transport and Main Roads is about to begin curve widening works at the bottom of the Kuranda Range near Avondale Creek. These works will improve safety for all road users and include excavations, rock wall construction and shoulder widening.
Works are due to start Monday 2 August
Monday to Friday
Between 9.00am and 3.00pm
Expected completion late August 2010
These works require single lane closures, traffic controllers and speed reductions to 40km/h during working hours. Minor traffic delays are expected.
As a part of this process the removal of a number of trees and vegetation will occur in the road reserve along this section of road. The Wet Tropics Management Authority has been consulted and confirmed these trees are not endangered or significant species. Only trees necessary for the completion of these works will be removed.
These works are funded by the Queensland Government under the Safer Roads Sooner Program, with RoadTek contracted to undertake the works on behalf of the department.
